Hunter’s Restaurant is a family-owned and operated diner featuring old-fashioned food with the best daily specials in downtown DeLand made with fresh food carefully prepared with high-quality ingredients. We are located in downtown Deland since 1949, making Hunter’s Restaurant the oldest restaurant in DeLand.
Hunter’s has always been in downtown DeLand, but not always at the same location as we were originally located across the street from our current location. Two brothers, Mike
and Kenny, manage Hunter’s now. Our uncle, Paul Hunter Jr., bought it from our grandparents in 1950, and Mike and Kenny’s mother bought it from Uncle Paul in 1999. When our mom retired a few years ago, Mike and Kenny took over. Due to the multi-generational management of Hunter’s, and with the restaurant being around nearly 70 years, the people that come in now often were coming in with their parents and grandparents, and now they have kids and grandkids that they bring into the restaurant. Hunter’s Restaurant just keeps feeding generation after generation.
Hunter’s had Jimmy Carter visit our restaurant when President Carter was campaigning for President. Hunter’s was also the location of a national commercial filmed in the restaurant for Credit Karma.
Everyone knows the restaurant for its breakfast. Top to bottom, the breakfast is the best in town. We also have great burgers, and do fresh hand-cut fries, never frozen. Hunter’s has great chicken wings, and always has the best coconut cream pie in DeLand.
People often ask about our longevity and why we have been in business for so long, and it’s because we continue to put out quality, consistent, fresh food, and some of the recipes are the same recipes since the restaurant began almost 70 years ago. The chicken ‘n dumplings, the coconut cream pie, and the meatloaf are still made with the original family recipes, and our customers love that aspect of Hunter’s.
Customers keep coming back because they are treated like family. We know many of our customers by name, and they have watched Mike and Kenny grow up. The oldest regular customer they currently have started coming into Hunter’s in 1963, and still comes in 5-6 days each week.
Our family looks forward to serving you and your family at Hunter’s Restaurant!
